Today, people of all generations are conscious of throwing garbage in the right place, classifying waste for a cleaner and more beautiful environment. However, the "green city" is losing ground because there are not many covered shade trees on the city roads. Instead, constructions were sprung up to contribute to the infrastructure development of a modern city.

The greenness of urban areas in Vietnam is assessed at a low level. Due to the fast speed of urbanization, many new residential areas, high-rise buildings and rapidly increasing personal vehicles in big cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang have taken up most of the area of large trees on both sides’ road and the public park. Seemingly harmless, many people did not pay attention to this problem until the pollution index increased and reached the red alert threshold. Notably, air pollution due to dust and toxic waste is the main cause of dangerous respiratory diseases.
According to The Health Effects Institute (HEI) which studies air pollution and global health, air pollution is now the fourth leading cause of death among all health risks for people. Specifically, the situation of intense heat and smoke in Ho Chi Minh City has reached an extremely dangerous level for health due to the lack of serious shade of trees.

Many treelines not only contribute to purifying the atmosphere but also create shady cool streets for people walking on the street in the noon with the extreme hot sunshine of Saigon. However, many trees were cut down with no purpose or made way for new city construction. Saigoneses feel nostalgic for the ancient trees that have had a strong attachment with and shaded the streets since their childhood. In the peak hot season, the temperature at noon in Saigon can reach 40 degrees Celsius or more, causing the body of passersby to become severely dehydrated, dizzy due to heatstroke or even fainting.

According to the sharing from Quyen Nguyen, 23 years old and living in Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street in district 1, Hochiminh City. Since the large trees were cut down, the surrounding space has become empty. The dust and hot flames from direct sunlight made her family unable to bear the scorching heat. Last month, she saw a street construction worker fainted while working under the sunlight.
She said that "I live in a sheltered house, but I can't stand the heat, people who have to work a job associated with the street, the shade of trees is a precious thing on these hot days." As a young person with a wide knowledge, Quyen believes that a modern and developed city should not only focus on architectural works or high-class greenhouses but also need to pay more attention to the issue of protecting the natural life around us.
Can not "CLOSE-EYES"
and "KEEP SILENT" to ignore this problem.
Witnessing the dramatic disappearance of natural green cover and the replacement of blockhouses and high buildings in modern urban cities, the Vietnamese government and nature conservation organizations cannot continue to ignore it. Honoured as one of the leading conservation organizations in Vietnam, The International Organization for The Conservation of Nature in Vietnam (WWF Vietnam) has contributed to preventing the degradation of the natural environment to build a Vietnam where people and nature live in harmony. In the process of national development, WWF Vietnam has come up with solutions to protect nature and cooperated with the government and local partners to organize projects on conservation and development of the natural environment.

In the "For a green Vietnam" program that is being implemented, WWF Vietnam is the partner who supports the Vietnamese government to plant 1 billion trees by the end of 2025. It can be seen that the natural environment is very important for human life. Therefore, each Vietnamese citizen joins hands with WWF Vietnam to act right away, even if it is just a small action to protect the life of the natural environment for the future; Vietnam will become a green - clean - beautiful country in the world.
